Kathmandu/ Hinduism has more than one billion followers (about 15% of the world’s population), most of them living in South Asia (about 98%). Along with Christianity (32%), Islam (23%) and Buddhism (7%), Hinduism is one of the four most widely practiced religions in the world. There are only three Hindu-majority countries in the world, namely Nepal, India and Mauritius. Mauritius is a small country in East Africa.
Nepal has 81 percent of the national population or 23 million Hindus, while India has 80 percent or 1.3 billion of the national population. Similarly, Mauritius is home to 52 percent of the national population, or about 600,000 Hindus. Similarly, there are about 14.5 million Hindus in Bangladesh and about 4.2 million Hindus in Indonesia.
There are 3.6 million Hindus in Pakistan, 2.5 million in Sri Lanka, 2.2 million in the United States, 1.9 million in Alesia, 900,000 in Myanmar and 800,000 in the United Kingdom.
