If you worship Lord Shiva, then you must have noticed that in every temple where Shiva is seated, there is also Nandi. Along with Lord Shiva, Nandi ji is also worshiped, but do you know why Nandi is worshipped? Why is Lord Shiva worshiped everywhere along with his vehicle Nandi Bull? Today we are going to tell you a story related to this.

It has been mentioned in the Puranas that once there used to be a sage named Shilad, who had done penance for Lord Shiva for a long time. Lord Shiva was very pleased with the penance of the sage and Bholenath gave him a son in the form of Nandi.

Shilad Rishi used to live in an ashram and his son also received education in his ashram. Once upon a time, two sages named Mitra and Varun had come to the hermitage of Shilad Rishi, whose service was entrusted by Shilad Rishi to his son Nandi.

Nandi, the son of sage Shilad, served both the saints a lot. When the saint started leaving the ashram, he blessed Rishi Shilad for a long life but did not give it to Nandi. Shilad Rishi became very worried about this matter.

He also thought of putting his problems in front of the saints and asked the saints the reason for this. After some thought, the saint said – “Nandi is short-lived.” Hearing this, the ground slipped under the feet of sage Shilad. The sage became very worried about this matter.

Shilad Rishi became very worried about his son Nandi. When Nandi saw his father upset, he asked one day what is the matter, why are you so upset? Shilad Rishi told his son that the saints have said that you are short-lived.

That’s why I am very worried. When Nandi listened to his father, he started laughing loudly and said that Lord Shiva has given me to you. In such a situation, it is his responsibility to protect me. So don’t be worried.

After calming Nandi to his father, he started doing penance to Lord Shiva on the banks of river Bhuvan. He did penance day and night. Later Lord Shiva appeared to Nandi. When Shivji asked Nandi his wish, Nandi said that I want to be with you only for the rest of my life. Lord Shiva was very pleased with Nandi and embraced him.

Shiva gave Nandi the face of a bull and accepted it as his vehicle, his friend, the best of his games. Since then Nandi bull was also installed along with Shiva. For this reason, Nandi is worshiped along with Bholenath in every temple of Shiva. It is said that Shivling is incomplete without Nandi.
