There are 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu. For the protection of the entire universe, Lord Vishnu has appeared in the Baraha incarnation, sometimes in fish, sometimes in Narada, sometimes in Parashuram, sometimes in Krishna incarnation. Similarly, according to religious books, every god/goddess to demon has their own Bahanas. They are dominating their Bahanas. But we have seen many statues & images of Lord Vishnu resting on the bed of the serpent, even though he has Garudha. In his every statue and images Seshnag are seen along with Garudha.
Thus, Lord Vishnu is seen as a symbol of redeeming the world from the ocean of sin. According to the time when sin had increased in the world, then Vishnu had saved the whole world. Sheshnag is a symbol of ‘eternal’, which means no boundaries. According to Hindu religion, Sheshnag is a symbol of Lord Vishnu’s energy, in which he rest. According to Hindu mythology, the posture of all the planets is inhabited by the Sheshnag. And, he recites the words of Lord Vishnu. As the scripture states that Seshnag is not only Lord Vishnu’s resting place but also it is his protector.
That is why he is shown sleeping in the Serpent. At that time, when Lord Krishna was born and brought home from prison by his father Vashudeva , Sheshnag protected Krishna from the storm. It is mentioned in the scriptures that Sheshnag ook the form of Lakshmana in the Treta era and Balaram in the Dwapar era. At both births he was along with Ram and Krishna supporting them.
