Today, we are going to talk about the snake which lives in Lord Shiva’s neck. His Name is Vaasuki Naag. So guys lets know a bit about Vaasuki Naag.
Vaasuki Naag is son of Kashyap Rishi and Kadru. Kadru, the mother of Vaasuki was daughter of Daksha Prajapati. Kashyap Rishi, father of Vaasuki was married to Kadru along with her 12 sisters. One day Kashyap Rishi asked Kadru and Vinata (sister of Kadru) for Vardhan. Kadru asked to be mother of 1000 snakes but Vinata asked only two sons but she said both of her sons should be brave than Kadru’s Son. In this way Vaasuki was born by a Vardhan. Vaasuki is one of the thousand snake sons of Kadru and Kashyap Rishi.
Vaasuki is also believed to be the king of snakes according to scriptures. Vaasuki is also very religious and respects dharma and makes dharma his first priority. Vaasuki is also known as snake king by buddhist people. It is also believed that Vaasuki has Nagmani on his head. Vaasuki has sister named Manasa and brothers named Shesha and Takshaka.
Vaasuki is famous for coiling around Lord Shiva’s neck, who blessed and wore him as an ornament. Vaasuki also took part in Samundra Manthan by allowing both the Gods and Asuras to bind him to mount Mandara, so that they could use him as their churning rope to extract Amrit from the ocean of milk. Vaasuki is also mentioned in other Hindu scriptures such as Ramayana and Mahabharata.
In Buddhist mythology, Vaasuki and other naag appear in the audience for many of Gautam Buddha’s sermons. Their duties was to protect and worship Buddha. Tatig Naag is known as the priest of Vaasuki.
